Good News! We got the date for the 2012 Hogsback Cross Attack V2.0

Save this date to your calendar....9/29/2012 (world isn't supposed to end till after this so plan to attend....HA!)

We've moved it to an earlier date for 2012 to coincide with other area events and cycling schedules throughout the state. (minus the WCA Cyclocross series which is impossible to schedule around since they have races every Sat/Sun starting around that time anyway) Only conflict is Bear Paw WORS Race, but seriously that's on Sunday Sept 30th...the hogsback is on Saturday September 29th and not too far out of the way especially if you are from the great white north.

The 2012 version 2.0 will have have a revised start/lap/finish area on the road just down the hill from the sandpit swingset. Since the weather should still be somewhat warm we are including a few additional things.

- 50/50 Hill Climb TT (I think we'll just call it Helltrack TT) - 50% to the winner and prizes to round out the top 3 in both male and female categories (if you think the equalizer is bad try this one on I may just name it Helltrack for the fact that the race has virtually a wall in it and resembles this very much just longer.)

- Post race party till park closes at 9pm at the cabin (more details to come on that later)

- Kids race will end the day after the "A" Race finishes. This will be followed by the ~~Hillclimb~~ Helltrack TT.

- Different pricing schedule for 2012 is also in the works. Something to the effect of race in as many as you want for a flat fee, family rate, and first timer fees. So much more to think about and get set up, but very excited for it.

So a few years ago when Infinit Nutrition sponsored the what's now called the Wausau24, I was able to try some during the race and even given a generous gift certificate for my first order. Since that time, I've used variations of my own custom formula and I couldn't be happier with my results. They offer something that other pre-packaged solutions don't and that's the option to add protein for longer rides and races and take protein out for cyclocross races all by dragging a bar across your monitor. Don't need all of that customization, well you're in luck they also have a pre-made "Ride" formula as well. Something new for 2011 was the addition of a race morning drink called mud which gives your everything you need to start your race day plus a little caffeine to get you started.

So when I started this whole idea I received outstanding support from 2 main entities that really take community to heart. First person that shared my vision was Liz Millender from Tomahawk Mainstreet Inc. This non-profit group does all that it can to help promote the downtown businesses and also to help bring in new business to the empty store fronts. Part of this plan is to have a campaign to illustrate that "all paths lead to downtown Tomahawk" and show off all the natural tourism our little city of around 4,000 has to offer. One of those ideas was to center marketing around bicycle trails and the race was a good idea to bring it to the forefront. So to say that the community embraces this event is indeed an understatement and could open the door for future events and make Tomahawk a silent sport must stop destination.

In addition to the downtown district, Tamra and Diane from the Tomahawk Chamber of Commerece were crucial in conjunction with Tomahawk Main Street to get the word out in addition to some great resources to help tie up some loose ends with organizing. They have helped promoting through their chamber chat newsletters and radio shows which is much appreciated and hopefully this will get people out to at least watch, but would love more to participate for the fun of it. They also have a vision of showing off the beautiful resources we have to offer and make Tomahawk a "Natural Tourism" destination.

We are exactly a month away from race day and things are coming together. We have been blessed with great support from sponsors, family, and friends. I would like to thank Sprocketz Bike Shop of Weston, Bikes-N-Boards of Rhinelander, and TwinSix for their support. We are going to have tons of prizes available, but you can't get them if you don't attend. Which brings me to this statement....Are you ready for the bottle toss? Register early for the race let me know how many are going to be there so we can prepare fun activities for all... Hopefully the weather holds up like it has so far to date. This is going to be a fun event and better yet it goes towards the trail development within that park so that we can have a mountain bike race to start the spring next year!!!!!!!

The race course has been laid out via GPS, Changed significantly from the original course mapped back in August to shorten up the lap. Kids will not do the new section and will go straight to the run up.

What Are You Doing on 11/12/11?

The answer should hopefully involve a trip to Tomahawk Wisconsin to enjoy a new event to the Tomahawk area and Bradley Park. Cyclocross racing is set to debut with races for all levels and abilities in the beautiful park. Proceeds from the event will go towards signage, equipment, and building materials needed to bring the trails in the park back to life. Join us for some exciting racing action!

Race Day Schedule

Registration/Pickup - 8am
Pre-Ride/Clinic - 9am
Kids Race ($10) - 10am (11years and younger = 1 lap)
"C" Race ($25) - 11am (18 and Under, Citizen MTB, Cat 4, beginners = 30min + 1lap)
"B" Race ($25) - 12pm (Sport MTB, Cat 2/3 = 40min + 1lap)
"A" Race ($30) - 1pm (Cat 1/2, Expert, Pro = 60min + 1lap)

Notes:

*Day of pricing is $5.00 more than prices below.

*A racer entering more than one race will pay only $15.00 for the 2nd race.

This is a course map for the 11/12/11 "proposed" race. Needless to say, but I am still in the permit process and once that's done I will be able to let out more information for now!!! Cyclocross in Northcentral Wisconsin??? yeah, we need to have some fun with this sport to. Best part is that money raised will go towards development of new trails!!!
